I was asked to design an interactive research pipeline on a web site for an international pharmaceutical company. It needed to work on mobile devices as well as desktop. The key design challenge was that, for the tool to be useful, the user needed sufficient technical information, yet it should not be cluttered or overwhelming. It needed to work responsively for mobile devices. And it needed to be usable as a method of navigating to pages with further details.
After consulting with stakeholders and domain experts, on requirements and prioritisation of information, I went through a couple of iterations of a ‘mobile first’ approach that worked using carefully selected information, progressive enhancement and making each interface element work as hard as possible.
The design was very well received by the client.
